Nose Reshaping – Rhinoplasty
The nose is one of the human body
parts that is first noticed by other people. Since
it protrudes from our face, it seems to project
us towards the people around us. That is why in
art and caricature it is used effectively to depict
a person as evil or kind, attractive or not. Although
different societies have different concepts as to
what constitutes a pleasing shape and size for the
nose, in most cases a medium sized, straight nose
is considered acceptable. One sees many attractive
people with all sorts of variations from that, but
none varying too greatly. However, in some cases,
a person might be endowed with a proboscis that
just detracts or distracts from that person's otherwise
pleasing features. Or, a person might be born with
an underdeveloped or deformed nose. Also, one may
suffer an accident that disfigures a once attractive
nose. In all these cases a skilled plastic surgeon
can apply his artistic and surgical skills to reshape
the nose to a more pleasing appearance in line with
the patients wishes and features. Because of the
delicate nature of the nose, the bone structure
involved, and the fact that the procedure is all
done through the nostrils to avoid scarring, rhinoplasty
is one of the most difficult surgeries done by a
plastic surgeon. We advise you when considering
this surgery to carefully check your prospective
surgeon's experience.
Because showing the results of this
surgery involves showing the patient's face, we
are especially grateful to our patients who have
consented to share their experience with you.
This young lady was born with a congenitally
deformed nose. Besides having to deal with an abnormal
appearance due to her nose, the patient also experienced
difficulty in breathing. She came to us after having
had previous surgery in an attempt to correct the
deformity. Secondary rhinoplasty - nasal surgery
following an initial attempt at correcting a problem
- is one of the most difficult aesthetic procedures
done by plastic surgeons. We are very pleased that
our patient is now able to breathe normally and
is very proud of her new nose.
