Q. What is
important in choosing a plastic surgeon?
A. Most importantly you must
feel comfortable with your surgeon. You should verify your
physician is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic
Surgery. This means your surgeon has undergone a thorough
peer review and testing on all plastic and reconstructive
surgery standards. You should also carefully consider where
you surgeon wishes to perform your procedure. Make sure
your surgeon is qualified to do the procedure you are considering
in a local hospital before allowing it to take place in
an office based surgery center. Many well-intentioned surgeons
operate in surgery centers in order to do procedures they
have not been credentialed to do in the hospital.

Q.
Is Dr. Roff Board Certified? By what Board? Why does the
certifying Board matter?
A. Yes, Dr. Roff is Board Certified
by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The certifying
board matters because only the American Board of Plastic
Surgery encourages high standards of training, ethics, physician
practice and research in plastic surgery. The society advocates
for patient safety, such as encouraging its members to operate
in surgical facilities that have passed rigorous external
review of equipment and staffing. Only members of the American
Society of Plastic Surgeons may display the ASPS logo. This
symbol of excellence in plastic surgery is what to look
for when deciding on a surgeon. It tells you that you are
choosing a physician who is certified by the American Board
of Plastic Surgery.
