John
H. Roff III, MD, PA
Dr. Roff is a skilled Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgeon who is Board certified by the prestigious American
Board of Plastic Surgery. He has been licensed to practice
in the State of Texas since 1984 and is experienced in all
forms of cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery. Unlike
most plastic surgeons he is a fully trained general surgeon
as well. His goal is to provide the highest quality surgical
services in a caring and cost effective manner and to provide
unbiased information to patients so that they are able to
make health care decisions appropriate to their individual
needs and wishes.
John H. Roff III was born December 8, 1957
in Anniston, Alabama. He received his secondary education
at Manhasset High School, Long Island, New York and at the
Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas, where he graduated Cum
Laude. He attended Weslayan University in Middletown, Connecticut
where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and,
again, graduated with honors. He then attended Baylor College
of Medicine between 1980 and 1984 where he obtained his
M.D. degree. Following graduation from Baylor, Dr. Roff
completed an internship and entire general surgery residency
at the Baylor Affiliated Hospitals (Ben Taub General, The
Methodist Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal, V. A. Hospital,
MD Anderson, and Texas Institute for Rehabilitative Research)
in Houston Texas between 1985 and 1989 under the supervision
of chairman Michael E. DeBakey, M.D., an internationally
respected pioneering heart surgeon and medical statesman.
This is one of the most highly regarded training programs
in the world. He was appointed Chief Resident of General
Surgery from 1988 to 1989. Dr. Roff continued his extensive
training by completing a plastic surgery residency between
1989 and 1991, the second year as Chief Resident. Again,
he was accepted for training at Baylor College of Medicine,
considered among the best Plastic Surgery programs in the
United States. He subsequently pursued even further sub
specialization by doing a one year fellowship concentrating
on Cosmetic Surgery and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery.
Houston has historically and for many years maintained its
position as a leader in cosmetic surgery techniques and
innovations. Dr. Roff took advantage of his opportunities
to learn from the masters in the field of Plastic Surgery,
many of whom are no longer in practice. He continues to
advance his knowledge and expertise by participating in
continuing education courses on the latest techniques offered
around the world.
Dr. Roff has been active in medical teaching.
He was a clinical instructor at Baylor College of Medicine,
Houston, TX from 1988 until 2003, first in General Surgery, and subsequently
in the Division of Plastic Surgery.
Additionally, he has participated in surgical
expeditions to places where his skills and knowledge as
a surgeon were otherwise unavailable in the community. An
example is a trip to Chetumal, Mexico in the Yucatan peninsula,
where his surgical team worked to repair birth defects such
as cleft lip and palate as well as other congenital defects
on children who otherwise would never have had an opportunity
to live a normal healthy life. Other work, all of which
was done under primitive rural hospital conditions with
equipment begged and borrowed from the United States by
the surgical team, included reconstruction of traumatic
injuries, burns, scar releases and skin grafts.

Surgeons
