Surgical Expeditions

Following are some photographs from his expeditions to Chetumal, Mexico. Chetumal is probably the most remote city of any consequence in Mexico. Capital of the state of Quintana Roo, it is located at the base of the Yucatan Peninsula, close to the little country of Belize. Originally a logging town, the city grew thanks to its status as a duty free port. Most of the surrounding towns and villages are inhabited by the original Mayan people that have lived in that area for thousands of years. Because of limited resources, specialized medical skills are rare, and the needs are great.
